The Lafayette Hotel Review: This remodeled residence hotel may have shed some of its original charms over the years, but it's reliable and clean. And it also still gives a glimpse of a bygone era in the City of Angels. It resides in the eclectic and sometimes shady Rampart district, convenient to downtown and the trendy and bohemian Silverlake neighborhood. Traditional guest rooms may be average in décor, but they do include valuable extras like microwaves and mini-refrigerators. Rooms are only available on a monthly basis, which means you'll find some permanent guests living here. The staff tries its best to keep up courtesies, but the location is a drawback. This not-so-nice neighborhood obviously affects the hotel's caliber of clientele. Still, if you're willing to sacrifice opulence for an authentic 1920's L.A. experience and need a place to stay for a month or more, this hotel has easy freeway access, making getting around greater Los Angeles easy.
