The Lodge at Torrey Pines Hotel Review

: Upon arriving at the striking porte cochère of The Lodge at Torrey Pines and being greeted by doormen attired in Scottish kilts, you know this is an extremely special and unique property. This breathtaking hotel was inspired by the work of Charles and Henry Greene, influential architects in the Craftsman style of the early 1900s. The handcrafted furnishings echo the work of Gustav Stickley, the rich fabrics and carpets emulate William Morris patterns and the tile mosaics of the spa pay tribute to Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The combined result of the carefully attended-to details is an atmosphere of an authentic, turn-of-the-century, California Craftsman home. The Lodge at Torrey Pines is located along the Pacific Ocean, adjacent to the Torrey Pines State Reserve and the Torrey Pines Golf Course, site of the 2008 US Open. The 170 guest rooms continue the historic feel of elegance and warmth through appointments such as a granite-topped bar at each room’s entrance, a rich leather chaise lounge by the bed, Tiffany-style lamps and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, Brazilian cherry woodwork, California Impressionist paintings, Stickley-style furniture and ceramic-tiled fireplaces. A.R. Valentien, the lodge’s signature restaurant named after a California designer and artist, is one of San Diego's finest. Chef Jeff Jackson's seasonally created menus focus on farm-fresh ingredients. The lodge’s meeting and banquet space (more than 13,000 square feet) can be configured for executive presentations, formal dinners and holiday celebrations. The Arroyo Terrace faces the Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean beyond, making it ideal for wedding ceremonies, banquets and outdoor festivities. Their lovely Art Deco-style spa is a haven for relaxation, ideal after a coastal hike in the state preserve where guests often see whales and dolphins in the sea.
