Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel Review: Refurbished in 2001, Santa Monica's first beachfront hotel has a lot more to offer than simply its superb surfside setting, although the ocean views, sea breezes, memorable sunsets and private access to the beach are all pretty fabulous. And the best of Santa Monica is within walking distance, including eclectic Main Street, the Pier and the Third Street Promenade. Guest rooms can be counted on for covering all the basics and then some, including high-speed Internet access. They offer clean lines and soothing tones that harmonize with the views outside. A massive symmetrical courtyard dominates the building's ocean exposure, and features a large swimming pool, poolside dining and swaying palms. Several restaurants --- including the contemporary Ocean and Vine --- offer ocean-view dining, while the full-service spa welcomes its fair share of Hollywood stars with treatments that range from standard to New Age.
