Lookaway Inn Hotel Review: This fine late nineteenth-century Beaux-Arts mansion crowns the crest of a hill overlooking the town of North Augusta. Classical details (perhaps suggested by early nineteenth-century Barrington Hall in Roswell, GA), include the capitals on the Ionic columns forming the veranda where today guests may enjoy afternoon tea as they savor the magnificent view. Everything about Lookaway Hall is grand, beginning with the entry and continuing into the first-floor parlors. Stained-glass windows and other luxurious period details signal singular painstaking care in the building's conception and construction. Like its sister property, Rosemary Inn, Lookaway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Period-style furnishings with modern amenities bring contemporary luxury into this historic setting. Each room has a private bath, and some have whirlpool tubs. Some rooms have private verandas offering views of the side lawn and garden. Two downstairs rooms are ADA compliant. There are five rooms on each floor, and the second floor is only accessible by stairs. Lookaway welcomes guests with children age three and older. Complimentary continental breakfast with coffee and pastries is served every morning from 7:30 to 9:30.
