Mandarin Oriental, New York Hotel Review: Part of the buzz-making Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle (which includes a shopping mall and a “food court” made up of some of the country’s best restaurants), this upscale property can please even the most discriminating traveler. For starters, the in-house eatery, Asiate, designed by Tony Chi, serves contemporary American cuisine with Asian flair and spectacular views. MoBar on the 35th floor invites guests to lounge well into the evening, while the Lobby Lounge, though lacking views of the skyline, maintains the hotel's exceptional standard in service. The 75-foot-long lap pool offers commanding views of the Hudson River, and most accommodations look out over Central Park. The 248 spacious, Asian-inspired rooms and suites (located on floors 35 to 54) have '40s-style furniture, original Chinese art and enough in-room electronic entertainment (DVD players, flat-screen TVs, etc.) to make you want to move in for good. Bathrooms boast soaking tubs, many of which are situated at a window to allow New York City viewing from high above. If that's not enough, the spa --- focusing, appropriately enough, on Asian holistic methods --- will put guests in a trance ... that's a good thing. In fact, there's very little incentive to leave this hotel.
