Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco Hotel Review: This hotel opened with a bang in 1987, and certainly competes with its luxury counterparts in the area of distinction. The property occupies the top eleven floors of a commercial building, the third-tallest in San Francisco. The floors, numbered 38 through 48, place guests above most of the surrounding Financial District high-rises, and a sky bridge stretches from one tower to another. The 158 lavish guest rooms and suites feature unobstructed views of the city and portions of San Francisco Bay, as well as a redesign by San Francisco-based interior designer Michael Booth of BAMO. Among the notable French Deco-inspired custom furnishings are striking white ash burl wood desks. Amenities include flat screen televisions, Egyptian cotton sheets and complimentary shoeshine. Another highlight: bathroom windows with birds-eye views. Business services are located off the lobby. Brasserie S&P offers a warm, casual atmosphere, while the Mandarin Lounge serves a small plates menu in the mornings and serves afternoon Asian tea.
