The Mayflower Inn Hotel Review: This former school was originally converted to an inn in 1920. The mid-20th century saw it fall to disrepair, but it was revitalized in 1992, when its current owners took the reins and fashioned it after the classic country houses of Europe. Furnished with art and antiques from the owners' world travels, the 30 individually decorated rooms feature items such as an 18th century Chippendale desk, Tabriz rugs, four-poster canopied beds and fireplaces. Large bathrooms are equally luxurious, with mahogany wainscoting, Limoges fittings and soaking tubs. Up-to-date amenities include the well-equipped Tea House for corporate retreats. Offering views of the lawns and Shakespeare garden, the on-site restaurant focuses on Atlantic cuisine. Recreation ranges from massage treatment rooms to a tennis court and two swimming pools. The inn is perfect for weekend escapes, being just two hours from New York City.
