Melrose Mansion Hotel Review: Although this hotel technically sits outside the French Quarter, it embodies all the character of that famed area. It resides in the adjacent Faubourg Marigny on Esplanade Avenue, the dividing line between the two neighborhoods. The complex consists of the original carriage house, a courtyard and an 1884 mansion lovingly brought back from decrepitude and painted a brilliant white. The renovated rooms and suites are straight from fantasy land. Four-poster beds are made of mahogany or elegant ironwork, and additional furnishings include antique dressers, gauzy lace curtains, 350-thread-count linens and baths tiled in marble. Attentive service means little extras like fresh flowers in every room and wine in the evenings. Wi-Fi is free. The outdoor pool is heated.
