MileNorth, A Chicago Hotel Review: Formerly the Affinia Chicago Hotel, this boutique property became MileNorth in 2012. Aptly named for its location near North Michigan Avenue, otherwise known as the Magnificent Mile, it’s Chicago through and through thanks to its Windy City-centric décor --- guest rooms feature signature photography and silk-screen prints of Chicago landmarks --- and its strategic location near popular attractions like the John Hancock Center, Water Tower Place and Navy Pier, not to mention Gino’s East, its next-door neighbor and one of the city’s best-known destinations for Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Accommodations here are contemporary and comfortable with all the standard amenities, including CD players, mini-bars, down comforters, ergonomic desk chairs and LCD televisions with pay-per-view movies. The hotel includes meeting space, a business center and a 24-hour fitness center, as well as an on-site restaurant --- Ferris & Jack --- that serves a down-home menu of Midwest favorites like meatloaf, house-made sausages, baby back ribs and cheddar-topped apple pie. Its highlight, however, is C-View, a rooftop bar and lounge that’s open year-round, serving spritzers and spiked milkshakes during the summer, and eggnog shakes and hot chocolate during the winter. While this is an ideal business hotel, there’s also plenty of fun to be had.
