Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa Hotel Review: Built in 1901, this hotel deserves its title as The First Lady of Waikiki. Its porte-cochère welcomes guests in grand style, and its historic veranda overlooking the beach treats visitors to live Hawaiian music and sunsets. Amenities include the second-floor Moana Lani oceanfront spa with windows that open to the beach, 24-hour room service, nonsmoking rooms and stunning views from the tower wing rooms. An upgrade to the 793 guest rooms and 43 suites included Hawaiian décor, emphasizing texture and soothing tones of beige, ecru and brown. While overall modernization has taken place throughout the property (i.e. high-speed Internet in all guest rooms), the feeling of Hawaiian Victoriana remains. Enjoying afternoon high tea on The Veranda beneath the huge banyan tree in the courtyard, you will feel like Waikiki-of-yore visitor Robert Louis Stevenson. History buffs will also enjoy the tours offered at the on-site Moana Historical Room. Wind down with elegant oceanfront dining at Beachhouse at the Moana --- known for fresh, local ingredients and delicious steaks --- or at the private beach area reserved for hotel guests only.
