The Modern Honolulu Hotel Review

: After a short-lived stint as the Waikiki EDITION (created by Marriott and visionary hotelier Ian Schrager), this hotel has become The Modern Honolulu. Schrager’s creative direction is evident in all aspects of this hotel, from the bi-level pools overlooking an outdoor theater featuring first-run movies and art installations to the tropical-urban style in the 353 guest rooms and suites. The seventeenth-floor Penthouse Suite kicks the luxury level up a notch with nearly 1,400 square feet of living space (with a large lanai that nearly doubles the space). Iron Chef star Masaharu Morimoto has created a menu of contemporary Japanese dishes at his in-hotel Morimoto Waikiki, and artist and former pro surfer Herbie Fletcher brings a hang ten vibe to the lobby with his wall-to-wall surfboard installation incorporating 100 broken surfboards from the best pipeline surfers. Amenities include a sunset pool, a full-service spa and a nightclub, where a New York City feel is accented with more than 40,000 antique light bulbs. Although the hotel shines the spotlight on play, it also gets down to business with meeting and event spaces that take advantage of the secluded natural setting.
