Mondrian Los Angeles Hotel Review: Though not the fanciest hotel in town, this one is certainly among the hippest. There is an almost anonymous quality to the façade --- watch for the address carefully, or you might easily pass right by the 30-foot mahogany doors that frame the entrance to the stylish lobby with its free-standing bar and rather futuristic décor (spiffed up by designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz). The original design is by Philippe Starck, who was selected for the then-cutting-edge hotel project by New York hotelier Ian Schraeger. The 237 guest rooms are arranged with an eye toward serenity, comfort and convenience. Nearly all have floor-to-ceiling glass windows that make the separation of outdoors and indoors minimal and provide inspiring panoramic city views. Primarily suites and studios, most guest accommodations include well-accessorized kitchens with an eat-in, bar-height table and the option of having private dinner delivered. Business travelers could hardly ask for more --- amenities include data ports, wireless Internet, work desks and multi-line phones. The fully equipped business center provides everything else. Chef Brian Malarkey's Herringbone restaurant offers "ocean-to-table" cuisine. The Skybar, with its incredible view of Los Angeles, remains one of the city's hottest, most exclusive bars. Being rich, famous or powerful are definitely helpful to getting in, but guests are also allowed access. Add a garden, stunning pool, terrific views, original art and a 24-hour state-of-the-art gym and steam room, and the indulgence factor is complete.
