Orleans Hotel & Casino Review: When this resort opened in December 1996, it had 810 rooms and 30 suites in a 21-story tower. It also started with a 90,000-square-foot casino with a 40-foot-high ceiling depicting New Orleans street scenes, the 70-lane Orleans Bowling Center and much more. Additional multi-million dollar expansions over the years have added a child care center, an eighteen-screen multiplex movie theater and the spectacular Orleans Arena, built for the Las Vegas Wrangler's of the East Coast (Ice) Hockey League. The arena, seating 7,500 for hockey and 9,000 for prize fights, comes complete with luxury suites. The two towers' spacious rooms and suites have separate sitting areas, 25-inch TVs and etched-glass bathroom windows. A $100 million, 21-story, 460-room tower facing Tropicana Avenue opened in the fall of 2004, increasing the resort's total room count to 1,886. The Spa Orleans health and fitness center is another more recent addition, as is 30,000 more square feet of casino space. The enormous convention, banquet and meeting complex encompasses four tastefully appointed and fully-equipped rooms to accommodate all events, from the most intimate gathering to a sit-down dinner for more than 1,000. A complimentary shuttle transports guests to and from sister property the Gold Coast and the Las Vegas Strip.
