The Padre Hotel Review: Surrounded by farmland and oil fields, Bakersfield was never known for a happening hotel scene. That changed with the opening of The Padre Hotel. Although this historic building dates back to 1928, its style caters to 21st-century ranchers and oil barons --- and all others who enjoy a side of cowboy whimsy with their luxury. With names like Double Deuce, Maverick, Head Honcho and Oil Baron, guest rooms and suites (all with flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi) underwent a major interior redesign, with an emphasis on sunny yellow hues. On-site food and drink offerings are impressive: Farmacy Cafe for breakfast, the saloon-style Brimstone for billiards and drinks, and Prairie Fire outdoor patio bar for signature cocktails and sunset viewing. Fine dining restaurant Belvedere Room serves up a wide-ranging menu of American favorites with a modern twist. Naturally there is plenty of board room space for back forty businessmen and oil well wheelers and dealers.
