Peck House Hotel Review

: Originally a stagecoach stop---in fact, it is the oldest hotel in Colorado---this comfortable B&B has creaky floors, Victorian antiques and one room inhabited by a ghost. It is set in a meadow of wildflowers just off Empire's two-block-long Main Street and is popular with honeymooners. This 11-room property is furnished with period antiques; some were brought by oxcart from Chicago by Mrs. Peck in 1862. There are lace curtains, flowered wallpaper and vintage oak or iron bedsteads (queen, double or twin, depending on your room). As for amenities, the only phone is in the lobby. The Peck House restaurant, open for dinner and Sunday brunch, attracts diners from as far away as Denver (50 miles) for its menu of game (elk and venison) and traditional Western dishes. Nearby attractions include historic Georgetown, Idaho Springs and the gambling town of Central City. In the winter, Loveland, Winter Park and Mary Jane ski areas offer uncrowded slopes.
