Marriott Plaza San Antonio Hotel Review: The mood here is tranquil, with six acres shaded by oak and pecan trees. One of the most unique features of this smoke-free property is the innovative use of four buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. An 1840s home hosts meetings, while the health club is housed in a 1850s German-style home. A Victorian cottage serves as a private dining room, and a former German-English School, located next to the lighted tennis courts, is a unique venue for special events --- in particular, the latter came to national attention in 1992 as the site of the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement. A $5 million renovation in 2012 included all 246 guest rooms and five suites, as well as the lobby, public spaces, restaurant and Palm Terrace Lounge. Guest rooms feature spacious desks, ergonomic chairs, artwork and bathrooms with granite counters. In the lobby guests will find two flat-screen televisions, a fireplace and casual seating for conversation and networking. At the Anaqua Restaurant & Grille, the dining room includes a state-of-the-art buffet and views over the courtyard with its free-roaming pheasants and peacocks. Recreational facilities range from a heated outdoor swimming pool to a whirlpool to lawn croquet. The property has 17,600 square feet of total meeting space; in addition, it resides next to the HemisFair grounds and is two blocks from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Wi-Fi is complimentary in the lobby and public areas.
