Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel Review: Over the years this historic hotel has been home to politicians, celebrities and foreign dignitaries. Following a $128 million renovation in 2008, it resurfaced as one of the top hotels in the city. The spacious 332 guest rooms and suites feature luxurious bedding and the occasional touch of whimsy. Most notable is the art on the guest room walls, part of more than 1,400 works by Chicago-based talent in the Blackstone Art Collection. To continue a tradition of hosting large groups in style, the property offers 11,000 square feet of event space. Celebrity chef Jose Garces' on-site restaurant, Mercat a la Planxa, serves tapas, chops and lakefront views. The free shoe shine is one of the hotel's longstanding traditions.
