The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach Hotel Review: In a neighborhood teeming with monuments to 1950s architecture, this new take on an old favorite surpasses its competitors when it comes to savvy style. Sitting right on the beach, this Art Moderne building features a magnificently restored interior --- check out the black terrazzo lobby floor and 40 sconces inlaid in a wall of cherry wood. Additions such as Venetian glass chandeliers and a fabulous collection of Latino-American and European artwork make this place an enviable template for the 21st-century luxury hotel. Guest rooms and suites were designed to bring to mind spacious staterooms on a private yacht. The best of the bunch have poolside lanais. Dining includes DiLido Beach Club (Mediterranean cuisine on the beach) or Bistro One LR (contemporary American dishes). The spa goes for a sophisticated retro look with bamboo floors and water cascading down a stainless steel wall. Try the urban rainforest with 23 body sprays or head to the beach and lounge in a groovy, tented sunbed.
