The Saguaro Hotel Review: Making its way into the California desert, the Joie de Vivre hotel group brings its laidback spirit to Palm Springs within the confines of this former Holiday Inn. At The Saguaro, the area’s quintessential mid-century modern vibe gives way to bright colors --- from Crayola exteriors to multi-hued guest rooms. (The vibrant palette is said to come from tones found in desert wildflowers.) With either city, mountain or pool views, each guest room and suite has a 42-inch flat-screen HDTV, work desk and stereo with iPod docking station. Although the property is intimate, it boasts two small plates dining venues from Iron Chef Jose Carces: El Jefe serves the cuisine of Mexico City, while Tinto features flavors from the Basque region of northern Spain and southern France. Also on-site are a full-service spa and outdoor pool with cabanas and a fire pit. A daily resort fee includes wireless Internet access, yoga and local transportation. Pets are welcome.
