Sir Francis Drake Hotel Review: Now under the Kimpton Hotels umbrella, this property is one of San Francisco’s better-known landmark hotels --- not only is it one of the most iconic structures in town, but its doormen are legendary for dressing up as London Beefeaters. The hotel's reputation is well-deserved, beginning in the ornate lobby, with its marble grand staircases. Upstairs, 416 guest rooms feature flat-screen televisions, spacious work desks and signature Kimpton robes (upon request). Most famous among the accommodations is the Presidential Suite, with a sauna and outdoor deck. There's a modest fitness center and a business center; in-room spa services are available, too. The "Drake," as it's known, boasts some famous eateries. Streetside, Scala’s Bistro serves French-Italian country cuisine, and Bar Drake offers wine and light fare all day, plus a hosted nightly wine reception. As for Harry Denton's Starlight Room, a 2011 renovation pulled this classic into the 21st century --- while retaining a classic European feel and those amazing 180-degree views.
