Solage Calistoga Hotel Review

: To put it mildly, the 22-acre Solage Calistoga offers a fresh take on they typical wine country resort. It boasts the usual: a luxurious spa, gourmet restaurant and expansive pool. But it has the the unusual, as well: a commitment to ecological practices, Pilates and yoga classes and free cruiser bikes for guests to use at their leisure. All 89 guest rooms and suites are individual, loft-like cabins that boast semi-private patios, polished cement floors, pebbly-surfaced showers and high-tech gadgets such as iPod docking stations and flat screen TVs. Spa Solage features volcanic mud treatments, as well as facials and products from Kate Somerville, one of Hollywood's favorite skin care gurus. Foodies will be glad to hear that on-site SolBar restaurant serves some of the best fare in the area. Families are welcomed here, as there's a kids' pool; pets are pampered, too, with special doggie beds and treats. Our favorite touch, though, is the cruiser bikes. Guests are free to cycle wherever they like --- into downtown Calistoga, perhaps, or along the Silverado Trail for some pedal-powered wine tasting. Wine country touring has never has been so healthy.

Our stay at Solage was fantastic. I liked that the guestrooms are individual bungalows, each with its own covered patio area. Our room felt private and cozy, and the environment of the hotel overall was very serene and peaceful, just the kind of wine country getaway we were looking for. The rooms also came with bikes, which I thought was a charming touch (even though I never used them). I did use the fitness center, which I found to be sparkling clean and well equipped. I recommend eating breakfast at the restaurant (very tasty dishes), and afterwards play a round of bocce ball right outside. :D
