Sonnenalp Resort of Vail Hotel Review: Well-heeled travelers choose this sprawling, all-suite hotel for its atmosphere, comfort, location, and---most importantly---service. Managing to avoid the kitsch factor, the celebrated staff dresses in traditional Bavarian attire. The décor is contemporary Tyrolean, with massive pine furniture, over-sized plaid upholstery and antler chandeliers. The hotel is ideally located, just 200 feet from the ski lifts. Each of the 88 luxurious suites has down comforters, a gas fireplace and a walk-in closet. The bathrooms have heated tile floors, deep tubs for soaking and thick terrycloth bathrobes. Four restaurants serve upscale Colorado cuisine such as lamb and wild game; the Swiss Chalet also presents a menu of Swiss cheeses and meats. There is a full-service European spa on-site, offering yoga and water aerobics as well as a wide variety of rejuvenating facials and relaxing massages. The nearby Sonnenalp Golf Club is a championship, Scottish links-style course. Programs for kids include supervised year-round sports.
