The St. Regis Washington, D.C. Hotel Review: From the arched doorway façade to the Oriental carpets and dangling chandeliers of the impressive lobby, this hotel (opened in 1926 when President Calvin Coolidge cut the ceremonial ribbon) is all about elegance. The property underwent a complete renovation of all guest rooms and public spaces, including the lobby, ballroom, fitness center and meeting rooms and reopened in 2008. One of its claims to fame is its hi-tech amenities, including plasma flat-screen TVs and WiFi in guest rooms that are rich in color and furnishings such as cushy armchairs, Pratesi linens, framed artwork, gilded mirrors and dressing tables. Slip into a bathrobe, slide into your slippers and unwind in marble bath facilities after evening turndown service. The cozy Lobby bar has earned it the reputation as one of the best in DC. A small fitness center is open 24 hours a day, and you can pay to use one of two nearby full-service gyms, one of which has a lap pool. There are abundant dining options within walking distance.
