 Stonehurst Place Hotel Review: Atlanta engineer and entrepreneur, George Burch Hinman, built this home for his growing family in 1896. Today, exquisitely restored, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. No detail was overlooked in its renovation. Off the music room, a standard space in many an Atlanta home of the era, an inglenook inset with a fireplace warms what would have been the family's gathering spot and still contains a grand piano. The art collection includes works by Andy Warhol, Dale Chihuly, Nan Goldin and Edith Head. A lounge chair and ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames stylishly abide in a setting that has preserved original details right down to the hardware. Green systems for recycling, rainwater harvesting and solar power are in place, and amenities are up to the standard of a large-scale hotel: high-speed and Wi-Fi Internet, iPod docking stations, LCD flat-screen TVs, 1,500 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linens and biodegradable bath products. Two of the bathrooms even have heated marble floors. An old-fashioned sleeping porch upstairs is among the public spaces offered to guests. Parking, gourmet breakfast and daily homemade refreshments are complimentary. The inn's midtown location is an easy walk to the Midtown MARTA station, with downtown just a few stops away.
