2012 Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI Quattro Review

This hand-built supercar was Tony Stark's car of choice in Iron Man 2 — and for good reason. Featuring a lightweight aluminum chassis and an insanely powerful 5.2-liter, 525-horsepower V10 that catapults this two-seater convertible from 0-60 in four seconds flat, the Audi R8 Spyder is just about the closest thing to a rocket ship that most mere mortals will ever have the chance to man.

Having said all that, it's most definitely not a car for everyone...and while you may be able to maximize its potential in a GT race, you just can't on a daily basis. You could make it a daily driver, but the seating position might deter you from that. Audi will get you for each carbon fiber option they possibly can, in fact several thousand dollars' worth, as was the case with our Phantom Black Pearl Effect tester. Also, we would have loved a remote entry system with a push start/stop button. The mini trunk up front was rather pesky each time we tried to open and close it. There is a cool sound signature, not too obnoxious, to signify your presence.

Should you need it for a weekend getaway, plan ahead for luggage, as you won't be able to take it all with you — and you can forget wedging a golf bag in it. But if you are Mr. Stark, you could not choose a better automobile than the Audi R8 Spyder Quattro.
