2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec Review

Powerful Full-Size Sedan

A three-quarter front view of a 2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec

In short: An athletic, bargain-priced luxury sports sedan.

he introductory Genesis always seduced us with its overall value. The R-Spec edition of the first generation re-design mimics in-house sport-tuned vehicles à la the BMW M Series or Mercedes-Benz AMG, and in a way delivers even more value. It's more aggressive but still retains civilized characteristics that won't warrant a trip to the chiropractor after a ride. You can get five adults going quickly in style with a bunch of their stuff in the trunk, and probably save a bundle in insurance costs, as well.

Premium accoutrements found on the Hyundai Genesis R-Spec include handsome 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights with LED accents, power heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators and approach lights, and an integrated exhaust design. Inside, the luxury refinements continue with heated front and rear seats, sumptuous wood trim, a 528-watt, 17-speaker Lexicon premium sound system, and Hyundai's advanced Lane Departure Warning System. Best of all, the Hyundai Genesis R-Spec comes with Hyundai's Assurance Trade-in Value Guarantee.
