2012 Infiniti IPL G Coupe Review

Sport-Tuned Performance Coupe

In short: A sporty, high-performance 4-passenger coupe.

ercedes-Benz has AMG, BMW has M, Fiat has Abarth and now Infiniti has IPL — Infinity Performance Line. The need for power and speed appears evident from its commercial success. And as if the Infiniti G37 S was not fast enough and able to get you in trouble with the law, here comes this 348-horsepower street racer. Our gorgeous Malbec black tester with a red leather interior loaded with electronics and an über-premium Bose sound system peaked at $51,000. You get four seats, but none of your friends or children who have to sit in the back will like you very much. This Darth Vader look-alike with its air dam is best suited for the eternal bachelor. Trunk space is okay, but nothing tall will fit in there.

The 348-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6 engine of the Infiniti IPL G Coupe

This vehicle is made for those who like to drive fast. Although it boasts an IPL-tuned performance suspension, you won't regret it as a daily driver. Inside, you will fit snuggly in the cockpit as the car is rather narrow and the large fixed paddles will let you select any of the seven gears even as you turn the steering wheel. Gear shifts are very smooth and the ride remains comfortable around town (we earned 16.9 MPG while cruising city streets in our tester)...which is where you'd be using this car.
