2012 Dodge Charger SXT Plus Review

Classic Sports Coupe with Four Doors

A three-quarter front view of a black 2012 Dodge Charger SXT Plus

In short: A 21st-century take on Dodge's classic muscle car.

Channeling the spirit of the original Dodge Charger coupe, which made its debut in the mid-1960's, this updated take on the storied muscle car may have four doors; however, it retains its racer's spirit. Featuring an athletic 292-horsepower V6, retro-chic styling and a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the Dodge Charger SXT Plus is a smart and sporty sedan for those looking for both performance and practicality. Unfortunately, all of that muscle comes at a price at the pump — while the EPA gives the Charger SXT Plus a rating of 23 mpg, we earned an average of 20 mpg during our time with the sedan. Luckily, the Charger makes up for its thirst for fuel in more than one way. Our tester's SXT Plus trim level came packed with intuitive technology like Sirius satellite radio with Gracenote Music ID, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection, speeding this American classic into the 21st century.
