| CAR OF THE MONTH November 2008
![]()
Though unable to decide whether it’s a sports coupe or an SUV, the X6’s athletic demeanor leaves no doubt that it’s intended to be fun to drive. Powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, this four-passenger crossover is nimble (it has an all-wheel drive) and swift, accelerating from 0-60 mph in approximately six seconds.
Yet the vehicle weighs nearly 5,000 pounds, and gets a correspondingly mediocre fuel mileage average of 20 mpg with highway driving. In spite of this, and its overall expense, the car is meant for enjoyment. For example, our tester had dark bamboo trim and leather upholstery, and our ten-way power-adjustable seats were heated. Additional luxuries included a rear-view camera and a twelve-speaker sound system with two subwoofers.
Warranty/Service: Four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty; twelve-year rust perforation warranty; four-year/50,000-mile full maintenance program; four-year/unlimited-mile BMW Roadside Assistance program.
