A Square That's Hip
2008 Scion xB

A three-quarter front view of a black 2008 Scion xB

In short: A sporty, utility box of a car.

In contrast to the smooth lines of the Toyota Yaris or the diminutive dimensions of the smart fortwo passion coupe, the Scion xB is a hatchback that boasts a distinctively box-like frame. This vehicle weighs in at a solid 3,020 lbs, and its spacious interior easily accommodates five passengers. There’s plenty of oomph to scoot around town, too—the xB packs a 2.4-liter engine and accelerates to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. Traction and vehicle stability control, along with side curtain airbags and three-across rear head restraints help ensure a safe and comfortable ride. The xB doesn’t forget about the fun in the midst of performance, though; it also offers an iPod connector and six speakers including two tweeters.

Warranty/Service: Three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty; five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty; five-year/unlimited-mile corrosion warranty.
