2009 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Review

Earth-Bound Rocket

A three-quarter front view of a black 2009 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe in the moonlight

In short: A sexy and powerful two-seat coupe.

T
he 2009 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe, a refinement of the 2008 model, comes packing more gizmos while retaining the same gutsy performance that has made it an American icon. Powered by a 430-horsepower V8 engine and shaped with all the sexy curves that scream danger, this two-seat muscle car is a natural-born entertainer, available as a coupe, a convertible or an even sportier Z06. A ZR1 Corvette launches this model into the exotic supercar category. Our test roadster displayed firm handling bolstered by its all-wheel independent suspension, electronic traction control system with active handling, and limited slip differential. An Apollo-rocket-like 4.2-second 0-60 mph acceleration glued us to the car’s leather bucket seats; and an available dual-mode exhaust system provided our ride with a satisfyingly throaty roar. Inside our tester was the two-tone leather-appointed interior option along with the standard six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, removable roof panel and rearview mirror with auto-dimming. Heated seats, side-impact airbags, Bluetooth hands-free capability and an AM/FM/CD audio system with DVD navigation are all optional.
