Impish Runabout

A three-quarter front view of a 2010 Mazda 3 i SV

In short: A stylish, nimble and affordable compact sedan.

grinning hood and a somewhat aggressively shaped body give the inexpensively priced 2010 Mazda 3 an impish demeanor, which matches this small five-passenger sedan’s potent engine and agile handling. The Mazda 3, also available as a five-door hatchback, comes in five different sedan trims, starting with the relatively basic i SV, i Sport and i Touring, and ending with the luxury-minded s Sport and s Grand Touring. The first three trims come standard with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission, while the s Sport and s Grand Touring come fitted with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission; a five-speed sport automatic is optional for all levels except the i SV.

The Mazda 3 i SV features reclining front bucket seats; powered outside mirrors; steering wheel-mounted audio controls; and four-speakers with a Sirius satellite-radio compatible AM/FM/CD audio system. Depending on the other car tiers, standard and optional features include a power-sliding moonroof; rain-sensing windshield wipers; steering wheel-mounted cruise controls; six speakers; in-dash six-disc CD/MP3-compatible changer; Bluetooth hands-free capability; dynamic stability control and traction control system; and rear spoiler.
