2010 Audi A4 Avant Review

High Performance Wagon

A three-quarter front view of a 2010 Audi A4 Avant

In short: A sporty, utilitarian station wagon.

With its sleek and sporty looks, high-tech interior and an engine that would blow the wood side panels right off of Clark Griswold's clunker, the Audi A4 Avant is definitely not your father's station wagon. Modeled directly after the performance-oriented A4 Sedan, the new A4 Avant combines the quickness and superb handling of its speedy sibling with the added bonus of more than 50 cubic feet of storage space, allowing for maximum versatility and utility. Boasting Audi's patented quattro all-wheel drive system and a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder with direct injection as standard features, the Audi A4 Avant is the rare vehicle that is just as comfortable hugging turns as it is hauling groceries. The Avant's smaller, more efficient engine also translates into less time and money spent at the pump, with the wagon achieving a respectable 27 miles per gallon highway.

Inside our tester's spacious interior, the ride was just as smooth and luxurious as one would expect from a car company who prides itself on thoughtful design and attention to detail. Along with standard leather seating and Sirius satellite radio, the Avant also features a host of other attractive options, including three zone climate control and an easy to use Bluetooth hands-free phone interface.
