The Power of Now
Top 10 Self-Help Books
Eckhart Tolle took the mysticism out of Eastern philosophy and distilled its wisdom clearly and succinctly for a Western audience in search of answers. While subtitled "A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment," "The Power of Now" (1997) is actually a matter-of-fact road map for overcoming the obstacle to living a happy and fulfilled life: your mind. When we first picked it up, it felt as though we were reading things we had always known — just phrased better and more clearly. For those not familiar with basic Eastern philosophy principles such as the "eternal now," the book is a good intro to Spirituality 101. PS: Oprah is a big admirer, as are actors Jim Carrey and Zach Galifianakis.
