Reviewing
Natural Cures "They" Don’t Want
You to Know About is as frustrating an endeavor
as reading it was. Consumer advocate Kevin Trudeau’s
bestselling book, which shows no signs of surrendering
its number one spot in The New York Times Hardcover
Advice section, is at once revolutionary revelation
and sensationalist demagoguery.
We
reluctantly concede that this is a book everyone should
read, containing facts everyone in America should know
about, such as alleged corporate and government corruption,
the murky connections between the pharmaceutical industry,
food companies and the Food and Drug Administration,
as well as the suppression of natural cures and important
medical information. On a less conspiratorial note,
the reader will learn about what, in Trudeau’s
opinion, causes illness in the first place and how to
prevent it. He boils these factors down to toxins, nutritional
deficiencies, electromagnetic chaos and stress, and
offers up plenty of advice on how to improve one’s
health and never get sick again. The most valuable among
these is his strong suggestion to create an alkaline
body pH.
It
is impossible to do justice to the wealth of information
in this book; but it is too bad that Trudeau’s
incendiary tone gets in the way of presenting the information
in a matter-of-fact way. The self-dubbed whistleblower
is a friend of hyperbole, exclamation marks, bold type
and clichés (revealing the “shocking truth”).
He’s unfortunately not fond of quoting and naming
his sources, which, to his credit, he freely admits
to. A tremendous amount of research went into the creation
of this oeuvre, and even though reading it is almost
unbearably irritating, we still recommend you give it
a shot. It’s fascinating to read about the “nest
of deception” in America. And if all you walk
away with from this soapbox is a bit more ammunition
for leading a healthy life, Trudeau has done his job.
