A place of refuge and renewal for more than 30 years, Kalani Retreat Center on the Big Island invites guests to slow down and downward-dog, Hawaiian-style. The accommodations are simple, bordered by tropical jungle and the Pacific Ocean; phones and televisions are forbidden; and the food is fresh, local and vegetarian-friendly. Yogis of all skill levels take part in a wide array of yoga styles, including classical hatha, kundalini and vinyasa flow. If you miss a class, do not despair. The weekly activities calendar is loaded with numerous classes taught by certified in-house and visiting faculty. Once you finish your breathing exercises for the day, check into a belly-dancing workshop or round up a team to play volleyball. Kalani's proximity to natural spectacles make it easy to find off-campus fun, such as hikes to active lava flows, zipline tours of the jungle and excursions to Hawaiian cultural and heritage sites.
