At a time when America is at war, films about combat can be hard to enjoy, yet more than half of our picks for the Top 10 Films of 2009 are war films. Amidst the explosions and gunfire, we found plenty of moving tales, from a revisionist history of World War II to the all-too-real present-day occupation of Iraq. We’ve added an animated senior citizen battling with his boyhood hero (and talking dogs!) and a few other films of personal struggles to bring you the best of 2009’s cinematic crop.
