Starring George Clooney as an apathetic family man forced to reexamine his life in the wake of a boating accident that leaves his wife in a coma, "The Descendants" is a tragicomic tale of love, loss and confusion set before a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop. Playing against type, Clooney trades in his usual sharp suits and dapper on-screen persona for a Hawaiian shirt and a rarely-seen sense of vulnerability as his character, Matt King, embarks upon an emotional journey to confront his wife's younger lover and reconnect with his two teenage daughters in the process. Alternately humorous and heartbreaking, director Alexander Payne's latest effort is an honest look into the often complex relationships that make up the modern family.
