The Room

Top 10 Cult Films

Juliette Danielle, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero in cult movie favorite The Room

The Room (2003)

Since its limited release in 2003, "The Room" has become an international cult movie phenomenon.  In theory, the plot — a choking cataract of absurdity — centers on a love triangle between a banker, his fiancée and his best friend. But really, most of the film consists of awkward sex scenes punctuated by dialogue that feels like it was written by a team of space aliens and run through Google Translate. The wooden acting and cheesy 1990s aesthetic have to be seen to be believed. Like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "The Room" is best viewed in a packed theater. It is an interactive experience full of hilarious rituals — audience members throw plastic spoons at the screen and walk out of the cinema in mock protest of the sex scenes.
