A Celebration of French Cinema

Béatrice Dalle and Jean-Hugues Anglade in Betty Blue

The Best French Films

French movies suffer from certain stereotypes. They are artsy, often weird, rarely have happy endings and people either talk really, really fast or not at all, meaning they are sloooow. Also, there tends to be nudity. Every cliché has a petit grain of truth, and we admit that we love French cinema precisely for being artsy, weird, sexy and rarely euphemistic; but we also want to show you that it covers a wide range, from wicked film noir and cooler-than-thou new wave to slapstick comedy and whimsical musical.
