Henri-Georges Clouzot's third and best film is more than an artful crime caper. Set in post-war Paris, it is a twisted character study, a noir morsel by a French director who was blacklisted for being "anti French," and whose name doesn't come up frequently in conversations about French cinema outside of France — even though it should! "Quai des Orfèvres" is a must-see for fans of gritty police dramas.
