Enjoy Catherine Deneuve's fresh and youthful, pre-"Belle de Jour" performance as 17-year-old Geneviève in this classic Jacques Demy musical. Pressured to marry a rich jeweler while her poor lover (Nino Castelnuovo) is absent fighting in Algeria, Geneviève cannot heal a broken heart with her newfound riches. Preceded by "Lola" (1961) and followed by "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" (1967), the middle film in Jacques Demy's romantic trilogy bursts with color and energy despite its downbeat subject.
