Howard Hawks and his star John Wayne loathed
"High Noon" (one of our Top 10!), so they made a more feel-good, less
artsy film about one sheriff John Chance who doesn't have to
do the dirty work alone. He can rely on his fine deputies to
deal with a situation involving an arrested murderer in his
jail whom his henchmen are trying to free.
of Quentin Tarantino's favorites, it's been called "a
western for people who don't like westerns and a John Wayne
movie for people who don't like John Wayne." Plus you
get to hear Dean Martin croon a song or two. Thanks to "Rio Bravo," we will forever
picture small town sheriffs looking like Wayne and alcoholic "Dudes"
