Great "Aspectations"

It's
one thing to have the luxury of booking yourself
a half-day at the local destination or hotel spa.
It’s quite another to be a busy workaholic,
grabbing a latte, lunch or laser treatment on
the run. Thus we’re very happy about the
recent proliferation of little day and med spas,
opening up in strip malls and at busy intersections.
With easy parking and walk-ins welcome, Aspect
Beauty at Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman
Oaks, is a perfect example. Visitors here know
not to expect the hushed luxe of a Ritz-Carlton,
but they appreciate that the elusive idea of weekly
or monthly facials can become a reality. And the
décor of this newcomer (open since June
2005) is plenty soothing with earthy olive, rust
and copper tones.
It’s
probably never occurred to you to consider your
French pedicure a luxury. In the same way, more
and more women are starting to think of fotofacials,
Botox injections or microdermabrasion not as indulgences
but simply regular maintenance, much like getting
one’s teeth cleaned. You pop in for a quick
session and then return to your busy life. Aside
from the convenience factor, President of Aspect
Beauty, Gavin Lipschitz, wanted people visiting
the medspa and salon to feel cozy, literally “as
if they’re walking into an inviting home.”
The setting on the mall’s top floor with
neighbors like the Gap and Macy’s is indeed
non-threatening and accommodating with subdued
lighting and calming shades.
Aspect’s
signature treatment is the Mineral Layer Facial
(55 minutes for $90). Be sure to ask for Thu Le,
a pro who’s been doing facials for 25 years
for a high-profile clientele including Jennifer
Aniston and Jamie Lee Curtis. She delivers with
routine, well-practiced strokes and after the
55-minute session, which includes minerals from
gems such as malachite, rhodolite and zincite
as well as exfoliation, extraction, masks and
a hand massage, your skin will be in mint condition.
She might suggest adding on extras such as a pumpkin
enzyme treatment or microdermabrasion—only
if she feels you’d truly benefit from these.
We
did not opt for the signature scalp treatment
for healthy hair growth, but the lay-down massage
beds looked positively inviting. Among other services
offered here are Swedish, deep tissue, pregnancy
and hot stone massage as well as Botox and Restylane
treatments, IPL Fotofacials and LED photomodulation
treatments and waxing. For more routine pampering,
Aspect is a full-service hair and nail salon,
as well. We also positively love that after your
quick escape you can pick up a new little something
from Banana Republic to go with the glow.
