Nurturing for New Moms

Breakfast-in-Bed is a sweet way to start Mother's Day morning, but we think it is particularly perfect—especially for new moms—to be truly pampered. Child bearing takes its toll on the complexion, so a facial does more than give a sleep-deprived parent a lovely place to snooze; it's time to condition the skin and bring back its early pregnancy glow. Most moms can find a nearby day spa for a facial with a deep cleansing, an exfoliation and a moisturizer, even before Mother's Day dinner out on the town.
For the most indulgent way to pamper a new mom on Mother's Day, we recommend a getaway to a spa that caters to moms as well as babies. La Costa, in San Diego County, California, has unique facilities and a special program. When we first visited La Costa, it was known as America's first full-service spa resort (it opened in the mid-1960s). During subsequent stays, we (along with Hollywood glamour-gal clients) ate well and worked out.

Once, we brought our young nieces to the resort's impressive Kid's Camp. Now, there's a maternity program at the all-new Spa at La Costa, which is constructed to resemble a Mediterranean village with Spanish Colonial buildings (all white stucco walls, arched doorways and red tile roofs) surrounding a 15,000-square-foot outdoor courtyard-plaza. The Kidtopia nursery—with its licensed professional nursery staff and child-oriented activities—is equipped with cribs and age-appropriate toys. While parents enjoy a spa treatment or a dinner out, babies are cared for at the nursery for up to two hours a day.
The Yummy Tummy service for moms is designed to soothe and relieve the stretch marks after her baby's birth. After the entire body is exfoliated (to get rid of dead skin) and massaged (to diminish tension), the therapist dry brushes the body, bit by bit. Then, Stretch Mark Balm—a moisturizer that contains Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Borage Oil, Vitamin E and White Blend Aroma Therapy Oils—is used to even skin tone, maintain elasticity, and keep skin soft and supple. There's even a two bedroom suite package for folks who want to bring the nanny along.
