The experience of staying at Rancho Valencia is now complete with the addition of The Spa, a 10,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to pampering guests with mud baths, massages, facials and hydrotherapies. Called a haven for vibrant, radiant living, The Spa is the premier place in San Diego County to “refresh, restore and renew.”
Like the rest of the property, The Spa is designed to resemble an early California hacienda. Since opening in July of 2006, it has enjoyed nearly full-capacity bookings, yet the clever design of space and use of acoustics create the illusion of privacy and exclusiveness. Each area is filled with lush, tropical plants, hand-crafted furniture and intricate Spanish tile work. The centerpiece of the relaxation room is the magnificent, circular, cast iron candelabra; woven baskets filled with fruit, towering palms and rattan lounge furniture effect an air of tranquility. Each of the ten treatment rooms opens up to private, sun-lit patios; couples’ rooms include fireplaces, patios, outdoor showers, bathtubs for two and private, heated pools.
The treatment list is long and varied, but our recommendation is the Terra Cotta Couples Clay Bake. Playful, romantic and utterly enjoyable, this is the ultimate shared experience for anyone in love. Begin by spending an hour with your partner in a sunlit private patio applying purifying clay with individual paintbrushes. Next rinse each other off in the outdoor shower and hop into the flower-filled double hot tub or float in your private, cocktail-size pool (we recommend both). Towel dry and relax with side-by-side total-body massages in an adjoining fireplace-lit room. Top off this mind-body treatment with a trip to the steam room and a dip in the icy polar plunge pool—your skin will thank you for it.
On your way out, don’t forget to check out the spa’s boutique, which carries an extensive line of natural products made with indigenous ingredients such as avocado, orange blossom and hibiscus as well as sea salts and essential oils.
