We have a long-standing relationship with the philosophy of Sebastian Kneipp and the eponymous line of bath and body products. Growing up near Germany's luxurious green forests, we had the strange pleasure of "treading water" à la Kneipp, which meant stepping vigorously through shallow pools of freezing water in order to kick-start the body's innate healing defenses.
The line, which has been around since 1891, is based on Kneipp's holistic philosophy of good health. His goal was to apply the power of water, herbs and plants to create wellness and cure disease. In fact, he claims to have cured himself of tuberculosis at the age of 28 by applying a regimen of exercise, healthy food, herbal medicine and mental harmony.
The same concept applies to the creation of Kneipp products today to a certain extent. The products are 100 percent natural and use only the finest ingredients such as potent essential oils. Aside from doing their jobs to wash or moisturize, these also have aromatherapeutic effects that contribute to mental clarity, calmness or increased energy, depending on the plant used. Citrus is uplifting while chamomile and melissa soothe.
So if you want to smell and feel good this summer, slather yourself in Kneipp's new Citrus Fruit & Melissa Herbal Body Lotion. No treading through ice water necessary—although that might be rather refreshing on a hot and humid August afternoon.
