The Spa at The Peter Island ResortTop 10 Romantic Spas in the World
What could be more sensuous than treatments together in a palapa-roofed spa cabana at the edge of a hilltop overlooking the sea? Peter Island Resort is a 52-room (plus a marina and three villas) island retreat in the British Virgin Islands. From a hibiscus-bordered road that passes one of the resort's five palm-shaded beaches, we reached its 10,000-foot, open-air spa which features teak furnishings and hand-woven fabrics, a flagstone patio, tropical gardens, palm groves and a glamorous spa pool and whirlpool. A narrow path leads to one of two bohios, an organic, wood-beamed and slatted-shuttered space, with chaise longues, treatment tables and ceramic steps that lead to the raised, whirlpool tub. Outside, one path leads to an idyllic open air shower and another to a sunning terrace-for-two and an outdoor soaking tub, perched above the secluded sandy beach and overlooking the blue of Big Reef Bay. The three-hour Seaside Escape includes dual 75-minute massages and another service, plus time for sunning, soaking and savoring a gourmet picnic.
