Fifty Shades of Grey
By E L James

Even though we had been warned that the writing is really bad, we picked up "Fifty Shades of Grey" just to see what all of the fuss was about. This is the book that has everyone talking; the so-called mommy porn that has caused rope and sex toy sales to go up in 2012. Here's what we have to report: the writing is pretty much exactly like that of the insanely popular "Twilight" and "Hunger Games" series. In fact, the book started as Twilight fan fiction. So, while it's certainly not young adult fare, it reads like it. The story details the affair of naïve, beautiful Anastasia Steele with the rich, attractive and vaguely mysterious Christian Grey, who has kinky tastes and a very special room. But even though the subject matter concerns submission and domination, it's definitely not S&M porn. In fact, we suspect that folks who really are into serious bondage, would snicker. It's "bondage lite" in the style of a dime store bodice ripper. It's also the perfect gateway drug to turn uninitiated readers onto the rich world of sexy literature.
