The Meridian Club Hotel Review

: There are thirteen units on Pine Cay, The Meridian Club's 800-acre private island. At this true retreat for guests, there are no locks, phones or televisions, and overhead fans provide a gentle breeze in place of air-conditioning. Spacious suite-style rooms offer other creature comforts, though, from screened porches to mini-libraries, as well as outdoor showers enclosed by bamboo walls and thatched tiki huts. At the Sand Dollar Spa, an expert trained in Balinese massage applies a variety of treatments, from gentle stretches to deep tissue kneading, designed to help with ailments ranging from migraines and allergies to anxiety and sleep disorders. Dining experiences include romantic candlelit dinners, Wednesday evening "Native Night" barbecues and specialty desserts. Guests are invited to dress casually –-- shoes are optional –-- and dance during Saturday night musical entertainment. In addition to darts and board games, pastimes on the island includes bird watching and beach combing. Spear guns are prohibited and there are relatively few divers, so guests enjoy a serene environment in which to discover and photograph the richly diverse marine life. Special excursions not included in the room rate range from a glow worm cruise to turtle watching to trips to nearby islands for shopping or touring historical sites.
